Thebigdirectory.org

Please welcome ThebigDirectory.org to the Cavern Family.

I am in the process of taking over from its previous owner and i will be converting this from a paid model to a free one keeping in line with the other Dir’s.

I keep thinking i need to spend more time offline but end up buying new sites which take up all of my time ;)

once the transfer is complete and i manage to whip up a decent logo for this, it should be in pristine working condition :)

Check it out

Good news and Bad news

Bad news

my pc crashed on sunday.

it kept rebooting and rebooting until the hard drive went along with xp.

so for close to 3.5 days i was without any computer nor internet access.

and during this time, people who wouldnt normally email started to write some, submissions to the directories went crazy than normal.

my host decided i am using too much resource and sent a warning email.

my paypal came back to normal – thats a story in itself.

right now, i am sitting here close to 4.5 hrs just reviewing the submissions to submiturlhere.com, .

i still have close to 20 pages left on this one + 3 more dirs to check :D

the worst was,

i had done a new layout for thesmilies.com and its all gone :(

spent close to 3 days working on it and everything is gone with the hard disk.

not that i cant redo it, but now i have other real life things to take care and i will not be able to spend more time on the computer.

Good News

My sis gave birth to a new baby girl. so constant stream of visitors and i cant use the pc cos they are next to the computer :D

will update this soon ;)

Webmasters Cavern New Layout.

Webmasters Cavern gets a facelift today.

After weeks days of trying to redesign it, i finally stuck with the old colors but changed a layout.

I was experimenting with new colors and a new fluid css only layout. but somehow it didnt give me the satisfaction and also didnt work out right
So went to a table based CSS layout today.

it has a outer table skeleton but everything is once again thru stylesheet.

as with any change, there are some bugs which i am hoping to sort out in the next few days, if time permits.

And if u spot any errors, do send me an email so that i can fix it asap.

apart from the layout there are many other changes as well

  • i did away with the old link script and switched to PHPLD2. so the dir is almost empty now. will have to post abt it in the forums to get some entries.
  • also, got rid of the skyscrapers in the main pages and slowly i will be getting rid of them from the articles pages as well.
  • easy updation of site as the number of dependent files have been reduced.

Check it out here

give me your comments on it plz.

Interesting

Its been a while since i made a post and its been a while since i actively took part in any discussion recently.

largely this has been due to my recent bad health and also due to other things offline.

recently i started a new non webmaster related forum for a community in south india.

i had done a Press Release + i have only 2 incoming links to it – one here and one from webmasters cavern.

Apart from these 2 i have really not done any other promotion of any sort for it – some emails to ppl i know and to group(s) i am part of.

The Press release seems to have done a huge boost in terms of SE crawls and visits.

Google has been and is a constant visitor to the site.
Msn doesnt seems to be far behind and yahoo is also constantly seen on the site.

at this moment, a search for the keyword (which ironically is the site name + the community name) ranks #2 in google and yahoo and #1 in msn.

At this moment, even though i would love to see more active members in the forum (it just 3 weeks old), i am not complaining as SE’s brings in good number of visitors and its only a matter of time before, i think, i start to a good number of new registrations.

PR seems to have done the trick so far :)

probably i will take out another Press release later on to see whats happening.

if u have a similar experience do share it here plz.

back back

got my broadband and here i am back online :)

i sold webstatservice.com today.

i received an email from the host today saying the site is using excessive resource and they wanted me to move to a dedicated hosting plan. but i cant afford that now so i sold the site for $150.

i bought the name for $12 + script was already bought for another site. so profit for me.

also, check out www.smsslang.com – a nice new site which i bought before leaving.

i am hoping to spend some time on it later this week or next week.

thats all for now. later
