Google adsense Tip – Improving your CTR

Posted by Praveen 25 July, 2006

Dan of the famous SEO Directory List reports this interesting tip.

I requested some assistance on DP earlier this week in regards to the placement of adsense to improve CTR. An interesting tip that I hadn’t thought of related to the text that appears in the bottom right hand corner of the Google Ads, namely Advertise on this site.

The purpose of that text link is that it allows advertisers to advertise specifically on your site, by bidding on keywords available that are suitable for the sites content. The catch here is that you make nothing from the advertiser clicking that, even though you are generating revenue for Google by having people sign up for their adsense program (maybe not in all cases as some who click would be existing users, but nonetheless…)

The problem with that text link is that it leaves the viewer in no doubt that they are looking at advertisements, which could decrease your potential CTR. I was advised that removing this text, would take this variable out of the equation and as such the CTR may increase. I’ve decided to give it a go and see what results I get.

If you want to remove the Advertise on this site text link, follow these steps:

1 Log in to your AdSense account.
2 Under the My Account tab, visit the Account Settings page.
3 Scroll down to the Onsite Advertiser Sign-up section (right at the bottom) and click ‘edit.’
4 Untick the Include me in Onsite Advertiser Sign-Up check box next to Subscription:
5 Click Save changes.

It may take some time for the change to take effect on your site so be patient.
